HOW I TAUGHT MY GRADMATHER TO READ

      I.            Answer the following:


1.     How does Triveni’s kashi yatre reveal the social, cultural and religious sale of our society?

Kashi yatre is about an old lady who wants to visit kashi or Varanasi. Most Hindus believe that going to kashi and worshipping lord Vishweshwara is the ultimate punya. But the old lady can’t go. Instead she gives her saving to a young girl who being poor can’t marry her lover. The old lady finds it more important than her kashi visit. This all shows the social, cultural and religious side of our society.


2.     What reason did grandmother give for women not being educated?

The grandmother gave the reason that in the past when she was young girl were not getting education. They were married at a young age and carried on house hold duties after being mother, including the bringing up of their children.


3.     How I taught my grandmother to read, is the story of an old women who was taught the kannada alphabet by her granddaughter at the age of sixty two. What lesson do you learn from the story?

The story interprets an idea that age is no bar for learning. One can do the impossible if has will power to work. One should have self confidence which is the key to success. One should always keep in mind that sincere efforts and determination always yield fruit. There is no age limit for learning is a continues up to grave. Education is a powerful tool which can make a man independent and proud.
